WHO WE ARE
Our Humble Beginnings
This award-winning, continental butchery was founded by the Jericevich family in 2005. With over 70 years of experience and three generations at the helm, the family’s journey began in 1949, with Maté Jericevich. Maté arrived in South Africa and opened a butchery in the centre of Johannesburg.
Maté’s three sons followed in his footsteps and had their own butcheries known as the Meat Counters. It was here, that they were at the forefront of pre-packaged meat products that were sold directly to the consumer. During this period of time, Ivan and Marko moved forward to open Seemanns Meat Products in 1984, which specialised in processed meats. Very shortly after, they once again pioneered the factory outlet shopping experience with the opening of a wholesale factory butchery and deli. This lead to Seemanns becoming a household name that was known for its quality products.
Around the turn of the century, Marko and Ivan sold the business. Marko, together with his children – Mathew, Tracey and Shaun – started Tirolean Meats/Berliner Grill & Deli. With shops situated in Northlands Corner and Cambridge Crossing as well as a manufacturing plants and wholesale shop located in Northlands Deco Park, the family’s passion for producing quality meat with a strong, European influence continued. The business has evolved to now offer artisanal baked goods & confectionery, central kitchen & an all new catering division for functions & events. fresh food, ready-made meal options and other delicious meat products, which includes a new range of dog treats.
